What’s as pretty as Connecticut in autumn or as quaint as Princeton, NJ? I’d say Boston during the holiday season. Black In Bozeman had the opportunity to visit Boston which was bustling with people this holiday season despite it being all of 22-24 degrees. From a distance you noticed pedestrians sporting thick wool scarves with their wool hats. Bostonians know how to navigate New England’s unforgiving winters. It would be the out-of-state visitors that are completely clueless.
Although it was quite cold BIB was still able to take in the sights and sounds of Boston. As of 2023 the greater Boston area had almost 5 million residents. Boston is the largest of all New England territories. Boston offers as much charm as their regional neighbors, the Birkshires, and Williamstown just with a metropolis backdrop. It doesn’t feel like a city while in the downtown or Gov’t district in Boston, no one is too busy to say hello, or greet you with a smile unlike other cities like Chicago or New York. I don’t think residents of those cities are intentionally rude I believe New Yorker’s and Chicagoans are just on a grind and genuinely are not focused on welcoming the average tourist. Bostonians seem to be able to tell who the outsider or visitor is and go out of their way to be ingratiating. It’s good to see. It also leaves you feeling like a return visit wouldn’t be a bad idea. Whether your visiting to take in cultural events, or the holidays, Boston delivers! Boston especially delivers when it comes to food.
The One Restaurant: Boston Cream Pie
With just 4 days to spare Black In Bozeman decided that some landmarks were an absolute must to see. The first part of the trip was a food excursion at one of Boston’s best restaurants named Stephanie’s of Newbury Street. Newbury Street has a stretch of some of the best restaurants and shopping. You can find everything from art galleries to consignment shops and boutiques like Rag and Bone, Zara, and Chanel. There are plenty of parking garages but I would advise taking their local subway system to Newbury Street. Parking can be quite expensive. Driving in Boston can feel rushed, busy, and congested. Newbury Street on a Friday afternoon was as busy as a Saturday afternoon at one of America’s local malls.
Black In Bozeman selected Stephanie’s on Newbury due to all of the restaurant reviews. Stephanie’s, of course, is by reservation. Stephanie’sambiance is intimate with low lighting and whether you are a party of 2 or a group of 5 + the seating is quite private in the main dining room which also has a bar on one side. Stephanie’s is the type of establishment that works well for a date because it’s so chic or if you’re dining with small children. There is a kids menu and one of the kid dishes gets your little one a free scoop of ice cream. Suffice to say, the ambiance is sexy, the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. More important was the food which was delicious. I opted for Rigatoni Bolognese. Scrumptious!
After a glass of their house-Cabernet, desert was next on my list.
Boston Cream Pie, of course!
Stephanie’s makes a great Boston Cream Pie but the winner goes to The One restaurant located in the Hyatt Regency Boston. Both were delicious but, The One’s Boston Cream Pie was the definition of decadence. The One also offers a great menu. I suggest trying the fish-n-chips entrée.
Please don’t leave Newbury Street without a purchase. Immerse yourself in the shopping. Black In Bozeman wanted to see what Zara designed for their winter/holiday collection. I was pleased to see matching knit sweaters and skirts. There were also more stylish pieces for the holiday party goer.
If you are into workout gear Lululemon has a shop on Newbury. I wanted to forage through items from Covet. Covet is a consignment shop located at 178 Newbury Street. Step down into this boutique that sells vintage Gucci, Fendi, and other labels as well as great consignment finds like sweaters, coats, or shoes. I spotted a barely used Burberry petite satchel and decided to nab it along with a great Sherpa crossbody. Please follow Covet on their IG page @covetboston
No visit would be complete complete without visiting Harvard Square located in Cambridge or The Museum of Ice Cream located near Boston’s seaport. My niece loved The Museum of Ice Cream. It took almost 15 minutes to gain entry into the museum and that was with a reservation. The staff spared no one with their enthusiasm. The Museum of Ice Cream is a great place to take your children. The museum offers fun games, exhibits on ice cream along with facts and history on the making of ice cream. As you come through the museum you eventually stop near a 1950’s style diner where your kiddo can grab what’s called a lobster roll which was ice cream that really taste like lobster and it was served with a small keiser roll. So cute 🥰 Don’t worry parents there is a bar with specialty drink items and or beer.
The museum offers a small gift shop so that children can purchase small souvenirs and candy. Be sure to take lots of pictures and don’t forget to fly in the cool creamsicle airplane.
You flight is all of 10 mins and it’s always cloudy with a chance of “sprinkles”.
There is something for everyone in Boston. Be sure to go to Cambridge and visit the Harvard Shop located in Harvard Square. Harvard shirts are quite coveted and hard to find. Treat yourself to some Ivy League gear from the shop.
